Chelsea removalists who know the stairs
Chelsea has more unit blocks per street than almost anywhere else on this line, and that shapes every move here.
Most of them are the older two and three-storey walk-ups built through the 60s and 70s, and the thing that catches people out is that there’s no lift. A third-floor unit means every wardrobe, fridge and lounge goes down a narrow external staircase with a turn at the landing. It’s slower, it needs more crew, and it’s the single biggest reason a Chelsea quote comes in above what people expect.
We’d rather tell you that at quote time than surprise you on the invoice. If you’re in a walk-up, mention the floor when you call and we’ll size the crew properly.
The newer apartment buildings closer to the station are a different job again. Those usually have a lift and a loading zone, but both need booking through the building manager, sometimes days ahead.

Away from the units, the housing splits three ways.
Beach cottages and weatherboards. The original stock down toward the foreshore is small, with tight hallways and doorways sized for furniture nobody makes anymore. We pull beds and wardrobes apart and take doors off hinges rather than forcing anything through.
Townhouse infill. Chelsea has had a lot of subdivision, and the newer townhouses come with shared driveways and no street parking. Give us the address at booking and we’ll sort access ahead of the day.
Chelsea Heights. East of the highway the blocks open up, with courts, cul-de-sacs and proper backyards. Access is usually easy, but there’s more to move, and the shed is almost always bigger than people remember when they’re describing the job over the phone.
Parking, the strip and the summer problem
Two practical things about moving in Chelsea.
The streets running down toward the beach are narrow, and from about November the parking fills with beachgoers by mid-morning. An early start is worth more here than almost anywhere else we work. Loaded by ten beats fighting for a truck space at midday.
Station Street is the other one. It’s a busy retail strip, and if you’re moving into or out of a flat above the shops, we need to plan where the truck sits rather than working it out on arrival.
