Furniture Removalists Oakleigh
Master Movers is a third-generation family removalist business. We handle furniture removals across Oakleigh 3166, Oakleigh South, Oakleigh East and Huntingdale, seven days a week.
Oakleigh has changed shape faster than almost any suburb we work in. The quarter-acre blocks that defined it are steadily becoming two and three dwellings each, and the streets around the station now have apartment buildings where there used to be houses. That matters to a removalist more than it sounds, because almost every difficult Oakleigh job comes down to the same thing: getting a truck near the front door.
Why moving house in Oakleigh takes local knowledge
Rear units and shared driveways
This is the defining Oakleigh access problem. So many blocks have been subdivided that Unit 2 or Unit 3 sits behind the original house, reached by a long strip of concrete barely wider than a car.
A twelve-tonne truck often cannot get down it. Where it fits going in, reversing back out past a neighbour’s parked car turns a ten-minute task into forty. Our answer is usually to park on the street and shuttle with a smaller vehicle, which we plan for at quote time and price accordingly. It only becomes a problem when nobody mentions it and the truck arrives fully committed.
When you call, give us the unit number and tell us whether you’re the front dwelling or behind. That one detail changes how we quote the job.
Apartment buildings around Oakleigh station
The newer blocks near the station and along Dandenong Road run on formal rules. There’s a loading dock to book, a lift that building management pads before anything goes in it, and often a fixed window you’re allowed to move within. Some buildings don’t permit moves on Sundays at all.
Ring your building manager before you ring us. Find out the dock times, the lift booking process and whether there’s a bond. We’ll build the day around whatever they tell you, but we can’t book it on your behalf.
Eaton Mall and the shop-top flats
If you’re moving out of a flat above the shops around Eaton Mall, the mall itself is pedestrianised, so there’s no vehicle access at all. Everything comes out to Portman Street or Atherton Road, which means a genuinely long carry.
It’s doable and we’ve done plenty of them. It just needs an early start, before the cafés fill and the parking disappears, and a crew sized for the walk rather than the floor area.
House removals in Oakleigh
Post-war brick homes
The original Oakleigh housing stock is solid but tight through the hallways, with doorways sized for furniture nobody manufactures now. Wardrobes, bed bases and three-seaters come apart rather than getting forced through and marking the architraves. Our crews carry tools and that’s part of the job, not an extra.
The family home downsize
A large share of our Oakleigh work is the same story. A family bought here decades ago, raised everyone in the house, and is now selling and moving into a unit or in with one of the kids.
These are the heaviest moves we do. The furniture from that era is solid timber, and the dining suites, buffets and marble-topped cabinets in these houses are genuinely serious lifts. There’s also usually forty years of accumulation in the shed and the garage that nobody has properly counted.
They’re also the moves where the load gets split three ways: some to the new place, some to a family member’s house, some into storage while everyone decides. We do that routinely and it doesn’t cost extra to organise, it just needs sorting out before the day rather than in the driveway.
New townhouses
Double-storey on a compact footprint, so stairs at both ends and a narrow entry with a turn at the landing. Combine that with a shared driveway and it’s worth a proper walk-through before we quote.
Moving between Oakleigh and nearby suburbs
Plenty of our Oakleigh jobs don’t stay in Oakleigh. The common runs are south toward the bay and south-east toward Dandenong, and we cover both.
If you’re heading that way, we have pages covering furniture removals in Cheltenham and removalists in Chelsea.
We also run down to the Mornington Peninsula regularly, which is where we’re based, so a move out of Melbourne’s south-east toward the coast is ordinary work for us rather than a special trip.
What our Oakleigh removalists can do
Full house and apartment moves, packing, storage, office and shop relocations, interstate delivery, and the awkward items that don’t fit a box.
If you’d rather not box up the kitchen yourself, our packing service covers everything from the whole house down to just the glassware and artwork.
When settlement dates don’t line up, we can store your furniture securely and deliver when you’re actually in.
For businesses, we move the shops, cafés and offices around the Oakleigh centre, and the warehouses in Oakleigh South. Commercial moves generally run after hours or over a weekend so nobody loses a trading day.
Pool tables, safes and gym equipment are routine. Pianos we treat as a specialist job with the right board and trolleys rather than four blokes and optimism.
What affects the cost of your Oakleigh move
- Access. In Oakleigh this is usually the driveway or the loading dock, and it’s the biggest single variable.
- Stairs and lift waiting. Both cost time, and lift waiting is out of everyone’s control.
- Volume. Including the garage, the shed and the roof space.
- Packing. Whether you’ve done it or want us to.
Longer runs, including down to the Peninsula, are best quoted as a fixed job so the number is settled before we start.
Quotes are free. For anything larger than a two-bedroom we’d rather look at it properly, in person or on a video call, than guess from a room count.
Frequently asked questions about moving in Oakleigh
Can you get a truck down a shared driveway?
Sometimes. Where we can’t, we park on the street and shuttle with a smaller vehicle. Tell us the unit number when you book and we’ll plan for it.
Do I need to book the lift and loading dock myself?
Yes. Building managers only take those bookings from residents. Get the times and rules from them, then tell us and we’ll work around it.
Can you split a load between two addresses?
Yes, and we do it constantly on downsizing moves. Some to the new place, some to family, some to storage.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to three weeks normally. Four to six over summer or at the end of the month.
Are you insured?
Fully insured, from the moment your things go on the truck until they’re set down at the other end.
